Labour fumes over unpaid benefit to ex-PHCN staff

UNITED Labour Congress of Nigeria, ULC, has decried the protracted issue of unpaid benefits to former staff of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, by the federal government five years after the privatization of the assets of PHCN.
Labour
At a meeting of its Central Working Committee, CWC, in Lagos, leaders of ULC called on government to pay the affected people their entitlements to save them from the untold hardship they had been going through since.
In a communique signed by President of ULC, Joe Ajaero, at the end of the meeting said “Nigerian workers insist that all arrears of pensions and gratuities owed Nigerian workers be settled immediately. We believe that it is mindless and wicked to deny Nigerian men and women who have given their lives in the service of this nation to be denied livelihood when they have retired.
“While we thank the federal government for commencing the payment of arrears of gratuities owed former PHCN workers, we do not take kindly to the half-truth and outright misinformation by the government on the number of people covered by the payment.
We know that what the government is paying for now after much pressure is just for about 400 workers out of the over 2,000 workers who are suffering under this insensitive action of the government. We urge Government to commence payment on the remaining workers.”
Recall that Ajaero who is also the General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employee, NUEE, in a statement on behalf of NUEE earlier in May, contended that “cases of staff who have been duly verified but not yet paid their severance benefits include cases of under-payment of severance benefits, Unpaid severance entitlements and pension deductions of all PHCN staff covering 16 months – July, 2012 – October, 2013.
Cases of staff who statutorily retired from service but yet to be paid their respective gratuities preceding the privatisation exercise. Cases of staff yet to receive the pension components of their entitlement, death cases still awaiting payment to the Next of Kin.”
The union added that also pending was the “refusal to conduct pre-retirement training for PHCN workers as required by the negotiated agreement.”

Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks 60-Year-Old Record At Juventus, Months After Joining Club.

Former Real Madrid forward Ronaldo went scoreless in matches against Chievo, Lazio and Parma to start the season, before finally notching twice against Sassuolo on September 16.

But the goals have flowed since, scoring five in five games to take his total to seven strikes in 10 Serie A matches so far.
The last player to manage seven goals in their first 10 league fixtures for the Bianconeri was Welshman John Charles, who achieved the feat in the 1957-58 campaign.
Charles ended his debut campaign with 28 strikes and Ronaldo will fancy passing that figure in the remaining months of his first season in Italy.
There are a host of big names that have come and gone from Juventus in recent years without managing to score seven times in their first 10 Serie A games.
Gonzalo Higuain, Carlos Tevez and Filippo Inzaghi each only managed six strikes in the same period.
Alessandro Del Piero, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Trezeguet, meanwhile, all scored five goals in their first 10 league outings.

Carabao Cup: Charlie Nicholas predicts scoreline of Chelsea vs Derby County

Former Arsenal striker, Charlie Nicholas has predicted that Chelsea will defeat Frank Lampard’s Derby County 2-0 in the Carabao Cup fourth round fixture on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea head to the game after defeating Burnley 4-0 in the Premier League encounter played on Sunday while Derby drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough in the Championship.
Nicholas told Sky Sports: “It’ll be an emotional return for Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge but only to a certain point as he’s got a job to do and he’s the kind of guy that’ll be as professional as you can be.
“He’ll be solely focused on getting another big result here, don’t you worry about that.
“He’s got some great youngsters there like Mason Mount from Chelsea, who can play against his own team, and Harry Wilson from Liverpool, but I think this one is just a step too far for them with the likes of Olivier Giroud and Cesc Fabregas getting a run out.
“Prediction is Chelsea 2, Derby 0.”
The kick-off time for the match is 8:45pm.

Qatar Airways To Consider Premier League Sponsorship

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Qatar Airways Akbar al-Baker (L) and Jose Manuel Astigarraga, the secretary general of the South American football federation CONMEBOL.

STRINGER / AFP The boss of Qatar Airways said on Wednesday his company was considering “several options” for a potential sponsorship deal in the English Premier League.
Speaking on the sidelines of a ceremony announcing a yet another sponsorship deal, this time with South America football federation, CONMEBOL, Akbar al-Baker said a deal with the world’s richest soccer league was a possibility.
“Well, we are looking at several options,” he told AFP.
Asked what these might be, he smiled and refused to be drawn.
An aide said the airline was in “negotiations”, but added no more.
Previous unconfirmed speculation has linked the airline to a potential ground naming deal with Tottenham Hotspur, who are in the process of rebuilding their White Hart Lane stadium.
The Gulf airline has a growing number of high-profile football deals but has so far not ventured into the multi-billion pound English league.
Deals agreed by Qatar Airways include shirt sponsorship deals with Italian side Roma and Boca Juniors of Argentina.
It also has a sleeve sponsorship deal with Bayern Munich.
In addition, Qatar Airways is the “official airline” for world governing body, FIFA as well as CONMEBOL, after it unveiled a deal with the South American football confederation on Wednesday.
Akbar said the deals help promote the airline’s image and well as that of Qatar, the football World Cup host in 2022.
Outside of football, the airline also has deals with the Sydney Swans Australian rules football team and the American basketball side, Brooklyn Nets.

LaLiga: Conte takes decision on Real Madrid job

Antonio Conte has ruled himself out of the running to take over at Real Madrid, because he feels the project is not right for him, Sky Sports News reports.
Conte was linked with the role after Julen Lopetegui was sacked on Monday.
The Italian coach left Chelsea in July and has now decided to extend his break from football until the summer.
However, he could be tempted into management mid-season, but only if the project is right.
Santiago Solari has been placed in temporary charge of Real and will be in the dugout, when they travel to face third-tier Melilla in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday evening.
Spanish league rules require that Solari, 42, can only manage on an interim basis for two weeks.

Chelsea vs Derby County: Lampard reveals Carabao Cup game plan

Derby County manager, Frank Lampard has revealed his side’s game plan ahead of their Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Lampard, a Chelsea legend, said County will attack Maurizio Sarri’s men in front of their home fans.
He, however, promised that his side will not park the bus as he prepares for an emotional game against his former club.
“It will be emotional,” Express quoted Lampard as saying at a pre-match press conference.
“It’ll be nice for me to meet up with a lot of friends behind the scenes at the stadium and see 40,000 friends at the game before getting down to work mode.
“Will we attack them? It depends on the game plan. I’ve been asked if I’ll park the bus, and by nature my reaction to that would be, ‘No.’”
“Obviously, I know Chelsea like the back of my hand and it won’t be easy to go and play like we did in the first-half against Boro,” Lampard added.
“But we want to give a good account of ourselves and be effective with the ball when we’ve got it.”
The kick-off time for the match is 8:45pm.

Top NFF Officials Shun Presidential Panel On Alleged Diversion Of Funds.

Seven top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), including the first and second vice presidents, Seyi Akinwunmi and Shehu Dikko, have been summoned by the Special Presidential Investigation Panel (SPIP), as part of its efforts to recover public property and diverted funds.
Super Eagles and NFF Officials in a meeting.
According to Sportinglife, some top NFF members who were supposed to appear before the Special Presidential Investigation Panel on Tuesday failed to show up.
NFF first vice president, Seyi Akinwunmi with six other officials including staff of the federation failed to honour the invitation after receiving the letter duly signed by Tahir Usman, the Director of Operations on behalf of the Chairman on October 24.
The other officials are NFF second vice president, Shehu Dikko, Ahmed Fresh Yusuf, NFF Finance Director, Mohammed Cheku, Alizor Chuks of the Marketing department and former NFF board members, Chris Green and Dele Ajayi.
The panel is investigating an alleged case of conspiracy and diversion of public funds in which the names of the above officers featured.
A source informed Sportinglife.ng that the affected officials pleaded for time as a result of preparations towards Super Eagles Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa on November 17.
“They wrote to the panel asking that they would report after the game. But whether the panel would accept their plea is what l cannot say,”” said the source. Our source could not confirm if Green and Ajayi turned up or not.
The officials were to report to the SPIP office along Kutigi street by 11am.
Recalled that three officials are currently standing trial before an Abuja Federal High Court for the alleged diversion of N3.4 billion from the Federation of International Football (FIFA) meant for the development of the game in the country.

Louis Amoke: Gov. Ugwuanyi’s show of strength in selfless service

The Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as usual featured prominently in the news in the last three weeks. During the period under review, Gov. Ugwuanyi was named the “2018 Sun Governor of the Year” for good governance; rapid rural development; regular payment of workers’ salaries and retirees’ pensions even without the receipt of federal allocation; nurturing peace and harmony among the political class and critical support for security agencies, among others.
Prior to this well-deserved feat, the National President of Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Comrade (Dr.) Bobboi Bala Kaigama, while in Enugu for the ground breaking of 100 Housing Units for Nigerian workers, commended Gov. Ugwuanyi for his sterling performance in office and outstanding commitment to the welfare of the state’s civil servants.
Comrade Kaigama added that his leadership was proud of Gov. Ugwuanyi for paying workers’ salaries regularly and ensuring that they “have decent working environment”, saying, “If there is any governor that Nigerian workers can come up and work for his success particularly for his second term, we are proud to say that our members will work for you”.
The housing project under reference is being developed by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) in collaboration with Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Nigeria Employer’s Consultative Association (NECA) and the Enugu State Government. The Gov. Ugwuanyi administration in fulfillment of one of its contributions to the speedy actualization of the project, which is so dear to the workers, recently awarded contract for the construction of access roads to the site.
Also within the weeks under review, the Rangers International Football Club of Enugu staged one of the greatest soccer comebacks to win the 2018 NFF/ AITEO cup after 35 years of the club’s last victory in the competition. It would be recalled that Enugu Rangers FC, under Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration, exhibited similar historic feat when it won the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) cup – breaking the jinx of being unable to win a trophy after 32 years.
Also, the World Bank Group rated Enugu State as the second most advanced state in Nigeria towards the frontier of global good practices with regards to Ease of Doing Business.
The objective rating, which was contained in the recently released World Bank Doing Business in Nigeria 2018 report, by implication, proves that Enugu State, under the visionary leadership of Gov. Ugwuanyi has institutionalized far-reaching socio-economic reforms and provided critical infrastructure and security that have engendered a robust climate of Ease of Doing Business, creating an increased inflow of local and foreign direct investments in the state. It has also gone a long way to showcase the ingenuity of the present administration in advancing the cause of business engagements in the state through innovations, accountability, fiscal discipline and efficient public expenditure management for the overall wellbeing of the masses.
Prior to the recent World Bank rating, Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration had received an avalanche of similar verdicts and commendations from well-respected bodies. These include the Senate on the judicious utilization of the bailout funds; the BudgIT report, which listed Enugu, Lagos and Rivers as the only three states out of the 36 states of the federation that have fulfilled obligations to their workers; the recent Economic Confidential magazine verdict that listed Enugu among the seven states that are solvent with impressive over-30 per cent Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to fund additional economic activities.
Others include, the fifth most competitive state in Nigeria, according to the National Competitiveness Council of Nigeria; the third most debt sustainable State in Nigeria; the first state in Nigeria to publish its Audited State/Final Account for three consecutive years; first in the South East geo-political zone and ninth in the country based on IGR as against Federal Allocation; one of the twelve states in Nigeria that can survive without federal allocations, among others.
The climax of the weeks’ event in favour of Gov. Ugwuanyi was the Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s validation of the gale of endorsements for the governor’s re-election by various groups across the state and beyond. The Enugu State chapter of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, which made the stance during its rich and colouful Iri-Ji (New Yam) Festival held at the popular Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, stated that the validation was “an ultimate Seal of Authority in Igbo Land”.
The highly revered body added that it was also “the most bankable promissory note that beckons on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a Certificate of Return to His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyichukwu Lawrence Ugwuanyi as the governor-elect in Enugu State come 2019”.
Speaking on behalf of the excited members of the organization’s state chapter, its President, Chief Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, further explained that they were amazed at the list of numerous groups in the state that have endorsed the governor for a second term in office, which included – “The traditional rulers council and the members of their cabinets; Association of former elected Local Government Chairmen; Enugu State Amalgamated Traders Association; Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN); National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS).
Others, according to Ohanaeze Ndigbo, include, “NULGE/ LG Pensioners; NURTW; National Assembly members; Enugu State Resident Doctors Association; Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT); Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC); Association of Former Members of Enugu State House of Assembly; Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), etc”.
It is also remarkable to note that the ex-councilors in the state, between 1999-2015, have thrown their weight behind the governor’s second term bid in 2019 and more groups have continued to endorse him, accordingly, based on his outstanding performance and uncommon leadership style.
Speaking further, the chapter’s President applauded Gov. Ugwuanyi’s “steady trajectory of massive infrastructural developments” stressing that it has “turned Enugu State into a huge and seamless construction site with all the tiers of government, namely the federal, state and the local at work in project implementation synergy”.
According to him, “the above observations by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State Chapter, are reinforced by the clamour for endorsements of Governor Ugwuanyi for his re-election as the governor of Enugu State in the 2019 general election”, revealing that “well over 100 groups have endorsed Governor Ugwuanyi to run for a second term” and “the list of such groups above is a tip of the iceberg”.
In his remark, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, who witnessed the historic cultural festival with Gov. Ugwuanyi and other dignitaries, noted that the validation by the Enugu State chapter of the organization was an outward demonstration of solidarity for the governor, saying that “you (Ugwuanyi) are such a humble man that I don’t know how low you can get again in order to show more humility”.
His words: “Well I cannot say anything rather than that I have noted with great satisfaction what the people of Enugu State have said today. And when I summon the next meeting of Ime-Obi Ohanaeze, which is the highest decision making organ in Igboland, we will take into consideration what was said today because Ohanaeze must look at all our governors and their respective states and say our opinions as to who has been doing well. On this note, I say congratulations to you, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as we invite you to come and appreciate what we are doing today”.
During the recent workers’ 100 housing units’ ground breaking ceremony, the TUC National President recalled that Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration had provided similar 100 units of one-bedroom apartments for the state’s civil servants between grade levels 01-10, who became proud landlords, after the state government paid 54 percent Equity Contribution.
Appreciating him further, Comrade Kaigama declared that “Gov. Ugwuanyi is second to none in the provision of workers’ welfare in the South East geo-political zone”, and “a performer and humble leader” who listens when it comes to challenges confronting the workers and the entire people of the state. He stated that the governor has set the pace for other states to emulate, stressing that “Enugu State is working under your leadership and that is not only because you are a performer, but you exhibit the sense of performance with humility”.
According to him, “we would say it anywhere because you have done it and you are still doing it. We assure that the working class not only in Enugu State but also in the entire nation is supporting you on your efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy”.
From the foregoing, it is being reaffirmed that Gov. Ugwuanyi has continued to make a positive mark in the governance of Enugu State, through his selfless service, vision, strength of leadership, sheer dexterity, and passion for the wellbeing of the people of the state – the true heroes of democracy. It is therefore, expected of the people to continue to reciprocate this gesture through their solidarity, goodwill and support.

Man Utd Discuss Offloading Sanchez To PSG

Alexis Sanchez
The Red Devils believe he could serve as a replacement for Neymar or Kylian Mbappe
Manchester United have discussed plans to offload Alexis Sanchez to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, according to the Sun.
Sanchez had been linked to PSG last winter and has failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford, with his position in the team coming under threat.
With massive wages, United are considering moving on from Sanchez and they believe PSG will be interested, should the Ligue 1 champions lose either Neymar or Kylian Mbappe, as expected.
Is Roberto Martinez the new favourtie to take over the Real Madrid coaching post ahead of Antonio Conte?
The Daily Mail claims that key figures in the Madrid dressing room did not want Conte as manager.
The move for Martinez won't be an easy one, as he had no release clause in his Belgium deal.

Super Eagles spokesman opens up on Mikel Obi’s retirement

The Media Officer of the Super Eagles, Toyin Ibitoye, has insisted that John Mikel Obi has not retired from international football.
Mikel Obi, who is the captain of the Nigerian national team, has not featured since the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
He was not named in Gernot Rohr’s 23-man squad to take on South Africa next month.
“Mikel has not retired from international football.
“He remains the captain of the national team.
“But the reality of it is that he is not getting any younger. And the positive (from this) is that other players now have a chance to step up in his absence,” Ibitoye told Greetings FM Abuja.

Pakistan Acquits Christian On Death Row

Pakistan on the map.                                                                                                     Credit: Google Map

Pakistan’s Supreme Court Wednesday overturned the conviction of Asia Bibi, a Christian mother facing execution for blasphemy, in a landmark case which has incited deadly violence and reached as far as the Vatican.
“The appeal is allowed. She has been acquitted. The judgment of the high court, as well as trial court, is reversed. Her conviction is set aside,” said Pakistan‘s Chief Justice Saqib Nisar in the ruling.
Bibi appeared to be in a state of disbelief after hearing the decision from her lawyer.
“I can’t believe what I am hearing, will i go out now? Will they let me out, really?” Bibi told AFP by phone from prison after the ruling.
“I just don’t know what to say, I am very happy, I can’t believe it.”
Blasphemy is an incendiary charge in deeply conservative Muslim Pakistan, where even unproven allegations of insulting Islam and its Prophet Mohammed can provoke a violent and bloody death at the hands of vigilantes.
Bibi was set to be released immediately according to the court, although there was no word if any security arrangements were being made for her protection.
Her legal team celebrated the court’s decision amid beefed-up security in Islamabad after religious hardliners had vowed to protest any acquittal of the case.
“The verdict has shown that the poor, the minorities and the lowest segments of society can get justice in this country despite its shortcomings,” Bibi’s lawyer Saif-ul-Mulook told AFP.
“This is the biggest and happiest day of my life.”
Her case drew the attention of international rights groups and swiftly became the most high-profile in the country.
Pope Benedict XVI called for her release in 2010, while in 2015 her daughter met his successor and the current head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis.
Freedom for Bibi in Pakistan, where university students have been lynched and Christians burnt in ovens over blasphemy claims, means a life under threat by hardliners, who regularly hold demonstrations calling for her execution.
The allegations against Bibi date back to 2009 when she was working in a field and was asked to fetch water. Muslim women, she was labouring with allegedly objected, saying that as a non-Muslim she was unfit to touch the water bowl.
The women went to a local cleric and accused Bibi of blasphemy against the Prophet Mohammed, a charge punishable by death under the colonial-era legislation.

 Landmark case

During the appeal hearing on October 8, a three-member panel of Supreme Court justices appeared to question the case against her, with Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, considered Pakistan‘s top expert in criminal law, listing flaws in the proceedings.
“I don’t see any derogatory remarks vis-a-vis the holy Koran as per the FIR,” added Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, referring to the initial complaint filed in the case.
Approximately 40 people are believed to be on death row or serving a life sentence in Pakistan for blasphemy, according to a 2018 report by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom.
Leading rights groups have long criticised the legislation, saying it is routinely abused to justify censorship, persecution, and even murder of minorities.
In recent years, it has also been weaponised to smear dissenters and politicians.
Mere calls to reform the law have provoked violence, most notably the assassination of Salmaan Taseer, the governor of Pakistan‘s most populous province Punjab, by his own bodyguard in broad daylight in Islamabad in 2011.
Taseer had also called for Bibi’s release. His assassin, Mumtaz Qadri, was executed in 2016 and has been feted as a hero by hardliners, with a shrine to him built by Islamists just outside the capital.
Taseer’s son Shahbaz tweeted “Pakistan Zindabad”, meaning “Long live Pakistan“, following the ruling.
Politicians including new prime minister Imran Khan invoked blasphemy during a general election this summer, vowing to defend the laws.
Analysts have warned the tactic could deepen sectarian fractures and potentially spill into violence.

EPL: Why Conte is interested in Mourinho’s Manchester United job

Former Chelsea boss, Antonio Conte, is aware that Real Madrid want to hire Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, and has decided to wait and takeover at Old Tradfford, Gazzetta dello Sport reports.
Conte is focused on replacing Mourinho as Manchester United manager.
The report also claimed that another reason United is an attractive option for Conte is the prospect of managing Paul Pogba once again after working with the midfielder for two successful seasons at Juventus.
The 49-year-old was sacked by Chelsea in the summer and was tipped to take over at Real Madrid after Julen Lopetegui was sacked on Monday.
Real Madrid have, however, promoted Santiago Solari from their team B to manage the first team on a temporary basis after talks with Conte hit a stumbling block.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez is considering bringing Jose Mourinho back to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Mourinho’s job at Manchester United has come under threat after a poor start to the campaign.
The newspaper reports that Conte is aware of Madrid’s interest in re-hiring Mourinho, and would be keen on taking over at United if the 55-year-old decides to return to Spain.
The Italian gaffer is also a huge admirer of Alexis Sanchez and had wanted to sign the Chilean during his time at Chelsea.

Rooney urges Man United flops to show respect

Wayne Rooney has urged Manchester United’s under-achieving stars to show more respect for their troubled club. United are languishing in eighth place in the Premier League and have made a slow start to their Champions League campaign.
Sunday’s 2-1 win over Everton did little to lift the gloom around Old Trafford, with United manager Jose Mourinho under scrutiny following a spluttering run which has seen key players fail to produce consistent performances.
Mourinho has clashed with United stars including Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw, Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial.
And Rooney, who became United’s record goalscorer before leaving in 2017, believes it is down to the team’s highly-paid stars to play with more pride and passion regardless of their issues with Mourinho.
In an interview with Football Focus, published on the BBC Sport website, DC United striker Rooney said: “Obviously they are going through a difficult period at the minute, but Jose Mourinho is very experienced and I think some players have to do a little bit better.
“In my experience, I have never seen or heard of a player not wanting to play in the game because they have had a falling out with the manager.
“I don’t think as a player you could do that, you’ve got to respect the club and the fans and also respect your team-mates.
“I don’t think any player, certainly at Manchester United, will be not playing for Jose, I’m sure they’re all working hard behind the scenes to get results.”

Ganduje: How Nigerians reacted to third video of Kano governor allegedly receiving dollar bribe

Some Nigerians have reacted to the latest video of the Kano state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, allegedly collecting bribe.
The latest video (the third) shows Ganduje, speaking with his guests while allegedly receiving documents and stacks of dollars.
The footage also exposed the names of the contractors, projects and the voice of the purported bribe giver.
It also has the translation in English with dates and timelines. This time around, Governor Ganduje appeared in a black Kaftan.
Unlike the previous videos released by Daily Nigerian, the latest is suspected to have been released by other parties who could have had access to them after copies were released on the request of security agencies and the Kano State House of Assembly.
However, Nigerians have since taken to their Twitter handles to express divergent views.
The reactions as gathered by DAILY POST is as follows:
@Omojuwa: “New Ganduje video out everywhere. Not on iTunes. The onus is on the Kano State Assembly to act on the matter while the EFCC get on with investigating the allegations pending the inevitable end of his immunity from prosecution. A further dent on the “anti-corruption” posturing.”
@chosensomto: “The way Ganduje smiles and shakes body in the presence of Dollars is something to watch.”
@Abdulrahmanleme: “The Kano State House of Assembly has a date with destiny. They must come clean on this Ganduje Gate. An opportunity has presented itself for them to distinguish themselves. The Governor can also make it easy for himself and everyone else by taking the honourable path.”
@biolakazeem: “I mean, how clearer can we expect Ganduje’s complicity to be before we agree he is a stain on the APC & all that is decent. He has been filmed on different occasions crudely & shamelessly receiving bribes in cash. How low can we go? This is the bottom of the bottom of the barrel.”
@OgbeniDipo: “Festus Keyamo who loves to talk about INTEGRITY and CHARACTER is yet to see Ganduje’s dollar video 1, 2 or 3. He paints one party as a party of saints and the other as a party of crooks. Paints one candidate as God and the other a Devil. Nigerians are not fools.”
@ebuka_akara: “A 3rd Video of Kano State Governor, Ganduje receiving Bribe Emerges. How has this man not resigned yet? This is too much.”
@elnathan_john: “Tempted to do satire around the Ganduje issue. But this is no time for satire. If people in Kano are not outraged in the face of those multiple videos then satire is useless. It is not for laughs. There is nothing to laugh about. If they carry on, then they deserve their Governor.”
@jeffphilips1: “Just came online to see Ganduje everywhere, haven’t even seen the latest but hasn’t Umar Benjamins Ganduje RESIGNED or impeached.
Is he planning to use another agbada to carry dollars to the state assembly for settlement or what?”
@SKSolaKuti: “More evidence of Ganduje’s Greed aka dollar collection operations. EFCC is in a coma till 2019 on this issue. But were quick to freeze Fayose’s account while he was governor. Just imagine this was Wike..Would the EFCC be this quiet on such an issue? This is why Buhari has to go.”
@AyoBankole: “Anything short of Ganduje’s resignation in Kano is a FINAL confirmation of @MBuhari’s accomplice in the criminal dealings that happen in APC.
“To think that the man is a close ally of the Pres. is nauseating. That the President has not condemned this shows the fraud that he is!”
@iameneji: “You do know the president has no power whatsoever on Ganduje? He can only PERSUADE him to resign. The EFCC doesn’t even have power to prosecute him until he’s either impeached or he resigns.Give Buhari a break!!! What’s the House of Assembly doing on this issues?”

No fewer than 141 Nigerians including 11 pregnant women have voluntarily returned from Libya to Nigeria with the assistance of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the European Union (EU). Mr Segun Afolayan, Chief Planning Officer, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos.
Afolayan said the Nigerians arrived at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos, at about 10.45pm on Tuesday aboard a chartered Al-Buraq aircraft with registration number UZ189.
He said that “After profiling, we have 71 female adults, three female children and three female infants.
“Also, there were 53 male adults, six male children and five male infants; among them were two medical cases and 11 pregnant women.”
According to him, the majority of the returnees are from Tripoli, the capital of Libya which has become volatile in recent times.
Afolayan advised the returnees to become more focused in life and not allow the unfortunate experience to negatively impact on their lives.
“Truly, you had bad experiences differently, collectively and individually but these should be the motivation for you to make positive decision to see the brighter future ahead of you.
“This is because, no one can tell the story more than you and making better use of your lives are essential.
“The Federal Government is urging you to be ambassadors of positive change by taking the anti-irregular migration campaign to those still aspiring to take the dangerous journey.
“You can talk to them in the language they will understand most,’’ he added.

10 Things You Should Know About Real Madrid’s New Coach, Santiago Solari

These are certain things you may want to know about the new Real Madrid coach who got on the saddle after Julen Lopetegui’s sack.
Real Madrid sacked their coach Julen Lopetegui on Monday evening after several poor outings of the team this season.
The decision to kick Lopetegui out was taken after the team’s humiliation in the hands of rivals, Barcelona at the weekend. Barcelona ran home 5-1 winners in the El-Clasico encounter.
Real Madrid have appointed Santiago Solari to take charge in the interim but who’s Solari?
Here are some facts you should know about him:
1. Santiago Hernán Solari Poggio was born on 7 October 1976.
2. He was an Argentine retired footballer.
3. Solari played youth football for Newell’s Old Boys and local Renato Cesarini, after returning from the United States where he attended Richard Stockton College in New Jersey. He joined Club Atlético River Plate midway through the 1995–96 season, making his Primera División debut on 12 May.
4. Solari moved to Spain late into the 1999 January transfer window, signing with Atlético Madrid.
5. He moved across the city to join Real Madrid. After a poor first season, he became a regular for the Merengues, albeit as a substitute; in the final of the 2001–02 UEFA Champions League, in which he played the full 90 minutes, he was involved in the play that led to Zinedine Zidane’s wonder strike against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, in an eventual 2–1 win.
6. Solari signed a three-year contract with Inter Milan in the summer of 2005 for €6 million, being sparingly used during his three-year stint (maximum 21 games in his second season) but winning three consecutive Serie A titles to add to his trophy cabinet.
7. The Argentine won 11 caps for Argentina, during five years. He was not selected for any major international tournaments, however.
8. Solari started working as a manager in 2013, first being in charge of Real Madrid’s youths. Ahead of the 2016–17 season, he was appointed at the reserves who competed in Segunda División B.
9. On 29 October 2018, Solari was named caretaker manager of the first team after the dismissal of Julen Lopetegui. He assumed this role the next day.
10. A dynamic and versatile winger, with excellent technical ability, Solari was mainly known for his dribbling skills, although he was also an accurate passer and was capable of striking the ball from distance with both feet.

Real Madrid Stars Want Zidane Back As Coach After Julen Lopetegui’s Sack

Real Madrid stars have reportedly voiced out their desire to have Zinedine Zidane as coach after Lopetegui was sacked.
Real Madrid stars have voiced their preference to re-appoint Zinedine Zidane as manager, according to reports.
The Frenchman quit the Bernabeu in the summer after winning a consecutive treble of Champions League titles.
Los Blancos are scrambling to find a permanent boss after giving Julen Lopetegui the axe following Sunday’s 5-1 thrashing against Barcelona.
Antonio Conte was lined up but player power has prevented president Florentino Perez from appointing the ex-Chelsea manager.
The players believe Conte’s presence would further disrupt a fractious dressing room.
Instead the Real Madrid stars are pining for club legend Zidane to make a sensational return, reports the Mirror.
Zidane is highly regarded among the players after delivering four pieces of major silverware in three seasons.
The 46-year-old cited a need for change when he handed in his shock resignation.
But if Real Madrid fail to appoint No1 target Mauricio Pochettino, then they could be forced to offer the club legend a lucrative deal.
Spanish Football Federation laws claim that La Liga clubs have two weeks before they have to appoint a permanent manager.
Poch is a favourite of Perez’s and the Argentine’s latest comments suggest the Spurs boss could consider leaving for the Bernabeu.
Before Monday’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.
He said:-
“The season so far, it’s strange because my feeling is the worst feeling I’ve had in the five years that I’ve been here.
“It’s the worst, my feeling. But it’s the best start ever for the club in the Premier League. It’s strange, no?”

To contribute to the growth of the oil and gas industry through research, the Chairman, Institute of Oil and Gas Research and Hydrocarbon Studies (IOGRHS), Akin Akindoyeni, has said N250 million can commence research in some areas of the industry such as environmental studies.

Akindoyeni, who noted the need for authentic research in the industry particularly the hydrocarbon part at an Oil and Gas Product Forum in Lagos, described the ability of the sum of N250 million as scratching the surface of research.

He said it was pertinent for intellectuals in the field to provide real data through research not only to government but also to other stakeholders in the industry. This, he noted, would check possible mistakes.

The IOGRHS boss who described gas flaring as one of the mistakes already made by government due to lack of adequate research remarked that without research findings, no sustainable advice can be given to both the public and private sectors on how to go about manufacturing in the industry.

… Bakson’s fireproof products get commendation
The Institute of Oil and Gas Research and Hydrocarbons Studies has named Bakson Fire Resistant safe brand the Best Fireproof Safe Product of the Year at its Oil and Gas Products Awards held in Lagos. The award was received by Mr. Jonathan Bakare, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Bakson Investment Nigeria Limited on behalf of the company. Chairman of Council of the institute, Prof. Akin Akindoyeni, handed over the award. Bestowing the award, the institute noted that Bakson products were “made with the finest fire resistant safe materials that closely adhere to international standards”. Commenting on the award, Bakare said his company was grateful for such recognition and promised the firm would not rest on its laurels.
He noted that the products’ ruggedness and safety remains unparalleled for long service product life, making it to stand out in its category. “Our product is complete structure coated with epoxy resin powder. Again we fully comply with government policy on standardization and regulation,” he said.
The managing director urged players in the oil and gas industry to look inwards and use more of locally fabricated parts in their operations. Adding that: “The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) is doing a good job. Local content must include use of Nigerian contractors, goods and services as well as employing Nigerian personnel. Over time, there will be an increase in Nigerian companies rendering services within the oil and gas industry. Industry operators need to work with Nigerian contractors to grow their capacity.
“To this end, training therefore is very important. However, local content should not be focused on the oil industry alone. Government must expand the local content policy to other non-oil sectors.”

Minimum wage: NACCIMA denies accepting N30,000, insists on N22,000

…Governors agree on N22,500
By Henry Umoru & Johnbosco Agbakwuru
ABUJA—Nigerian Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, NACCIMA, yesterday, dissociated itself from claims by organised labour that the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage agreed on N30,000.

NLC NACCIMA said it only agreed to pay N22,000, adding that even when the Federal Government proposed N24,000, it was not comfortable with it.
Consequently, NACCIMA has written to chairman of the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee, Ms Ama Pepple, denying ever accepting to pay N30,000 as the new minimum wage.
The letter addressed to Ms. Pepple, and signed by Dr. M. F. Dankaka, President, Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture and representative of NACCIMA in the tripartite committee, read:  “We refer to the media reports on the above stated national minimum wage figure and the proposed industrial actions by organised labour over a misconceived ‘agreement’ on the sum of N30,000 as the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
“We were perplexed to learn that the sum/agreement was an outcome of the workings of the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage, which we are a member.
We can’t pay new minimum wage – GOVS
‘’At no time did NACCIMA agree to such a figure. Rather, the last figure offered by us as part of the organised private sector, OPS, was N22,000 and negotiation was still ongoing for the meeting to arrive at a consensus and not by moving a motion.

“We did not also authorise the representatives of Nigeria Employers Consultative Association, NECA, and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN, to speak on our behalf. Recall that our members constitute about 50 percent of the employers in the OPS.
‘’Conversely, we do not want to speak for the thousands of employers in the informal economy whose voices have not been heard.”
NGF agrees on N22,500
Vanguard reliably gathered that Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, had at its meeting yesterday, agreed to pay N22,500, insisting that the N24,000 proposal by the Federal Government was high.
It was further gathered that the government was contemplating stepping up the amount to ensure harmonious relationship with the workers.
At press time, NGF was still meeting at its headquarters in Abuja to conclude and agree on an acceptable figure.
The NGF was expected to meet with Economic Management Team, EMT, chaired by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, by 8pm yesterday on its final resolution.
No work, no pay policy: NLC threatens to report FG to ILO
Recall that organised labour has threatened to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike with effect from November 6, unless the government accepted and commenced payment of the negotiated N30, 000.
It claimed that the Tripartite Committee on the National Minimum Wage had since completed its assignment for onward submission of its report to President Muhammadu Buhari.
But the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, had said that the Tripartite Committee on New National Minimum Wage was yet to conclude negotiation on the agreed figure.

EPL: How Aubameyang forced Dortmund exit to sign for Arsenal

Former Borussia Dortmund boss, Peter Stoger, has revealed how Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang forced through a move to Arsenal in January.
In an interview with Bild, Stoger claimed that Aubameyang refused to run during training sessions.
The Gabonese forward joined the Gunners in a £56m deal to become Arsene Wenger’s final signing for the club and has scored an impressive 19 goals in 26 appearances across last season and the current campaign under new boss Unai Emery.
But Stoger says Aubameyang’s final days at Dortmund were far from professional.
“He left me no other choice. He trained well four days of the week. But to underline his wish for a transfer, he skipped team meetings before games or refused to run during the final training.
“We did our best to keep him for at least another half a year, but Auba wasn’t ready for that,” he said.

50 Cent calls Steve Madden a 'Liar' and releases evidence Nicki Minaj turned down an offer

50 Cent calls Steve Madden 'A Liar' and releases evidence Nicki Minaj turned down an offer.
It appears that Nicki Minaj was telling the truth about turning down an offer from shoe designer Steve Madden before her rival Cardi B was approached with the deal.
The rappers exchanged a series of insults and accusations on social media on Monday, and in one of Nicki's post she revealed she turned down an offer from Steve Madden, who Cardi partnered with for a series of ads at the end of last year.
Steve Madden later took to Twitter to accuse Nicki of lying about a deal that was never offered.
Now controversial rapper, 50 Cent has shared a screenshot of Madden's 2015 Vibe interview, in which the designer spoke about a would be Nicki collaboration.
The Interview read: "Another rapstress who could have collected a check from Madden and ironically, Iggy’s foe? Nicki Minaj. "I was gonna do a collaboration with Nicki Minaj and we got into a fight the first minute we met," he recalls, without pinpointing the exact cause. "And then we patched it up. We were cool. We text each other, we became sort of buddies. We were thinking of doing something, and I would’ve, but I was with Iggy and I thought, 'Coke and Pepsi.' It was a mistake. I made a mistake and I wish that I could go back in time and work with Nicki instead of Iggy."

Even Iggy Azalea also weighed in and confirmed Nicki was telling the truth. She also called Madden a liar.

In another tweet, Nicki blasted the fashion designer. She wrote: '? @SteveMadden thought I was lying you dumb f**k. You, Irv & Gee Roberson came to my house in MALIBU BEGGING me to do the deal. I said no. You then did a deal w/Iggy & she hated the pics you used & went in on you online. Im sure Irv told you to post this lie. Respond to @50cent

Horror: Lexus SUV Loses Control And Falls Into A River In Abuja (Photo)

According to a report by Punch Metro, a young man, identified as Kingsley, has lost his life after a Lexus SUV lost control and fell into a river behind  EFAB Estate, Lokogoma District, Abuja, on Monday.
Two other occupants of the vehicle survived the crash which occurred in the morning after the SUV fell off a narrow bridge and landed on its back in the flooded river.
Northern City News reports that residents rushed to the scene and rescued the occupants, but Kingsley, who was the first to be rescued, inexplicably returned to the water and was swept away.
His body was found later in the afternoon by divers.
An eyewitness, who identified himself as Patrick, said he was in his room when he heard a loud noise from the scene, adding that some residents said they saw the driver on top speed before the crash.
He said, “I was hearing a shout from my room; so, I came out and saw people trying to bring the driver out of the vehicle.
“We had to smash the windscreen to bring him out of the car but in the process of doing that, he was beginning to drown and we managed to bring him out and took him to the hospital, but the third guy who was in the back seat drowned and we couldn’t find him.”
A resident, Peter Monday, said the driver was speeding when he crashed into the river.
“I don’t know whether he was trying to avoid hitting an Okada man (commercial motorcyclist) when he crashed into the river. We waded into the river and rescued the three occupants,” he stated.
Monday further explained that, “We broke the windscreen and brought the three of them out of the vehicle.
“The first person we rescued later came back into the river shouting that his uncle was inside the car.
“He came back into the river and was swept away; maybe it was because he was weak and could not withstand the fierce current.
“We spent over one hour looking for his body, but we couldn’t find it.”
The FCT police spokesman, Anjuguri Manzah, said he was not aware of the incident.

FIFA Issues Life Ban For Ghana Football Boss Over Corruption

.

One of African football’s most powerful figures has been banned from the sport for life for breaking bribery and corruption rules.

Ex-Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi also broke conflict of interest rules, FIFA said, BBC Sport reports.
Football’s world governing body launched an investigation after Nyantakyi was pictured taking $65,000 from an undercover reporter.
FIFA fined Nyantakyi 500,000 Swiss francs (£390,000).
Nyantakyi was also vice-president of the Confederation of African Football and a member of the FIFA Council.
He stepped down as GFA president in June after film of him allegedly accepting a “cash gift” was made public.
The film was captured by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and BBC Africa’s investigations unit, Africa Eye, received exclusive access to the footage.
Nyantakyi later resigned his CAF and FIFA posts but claimed the footage had been doctored to falsely incriminate him.
The adjudicatory chamber of FIFA’s ethics committee said the ban for life applied to “all football-related activities at both national and international level”.
According to a FIFA statement, Mr Nyantakyi was notified on Tuesday about the ban.
This brings to an end the career of the man considered as the most successful GFA president in the history of Ghana football.
Nyantakyi reigned as GFA president for 13 years and helped Ghana’s Black Stars to qualify for three successive FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010 and 2014). He rose through the ranks to become the Vice President of the Confederation of African Football. He was highly tipped to take over from current CAF president Ahmad Ahmad in the near future.
Nyantakyi was initially suspended on June 8 for 90 days by the adjudicatory chamber of FIFA’s independent Ethics Committee. The ban was later extended for an additional 45 days on September 6.

Afenifere Suspends Omisore Over Osun Elections

The Pan-Yoruba Socio-political Group, Afenifere yesterday suspended the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Senator Iyiola Omisore, in the last election of Osun State.

Omisore, according to Afenifere, was sanctioned for allegedly violating the directive of the the socio-political group, which affected the outcome of Osun State governorship election. The suspension of Omosore was contained in the communique issued at the end of the General Assembly of Afenifere held at the Ijapo, Akure residence of its leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti.
The SDP candidate was reported to have supported that All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, during the run-off election in Osun State.
But in his swift response to the suspension, Omisore argued that Afenifere by-passed the principle of fair hearing by saying that he acted at variance in his decision to coalesced with All Progressives Congress (APC) at the rerun election.
Omisore noted that SDP passed a resolution to coalesce with APC in Osun, stressing that he acted in consonance with the party’s position.
Omisore added that Osun SDP is not affiliate of Afenifere in any form.
He also stated that he was not given any directives, adding that that it might be oversight on the part of Afenifere.
Afenifere’s communique was read by Chief Korede Duyile, who was the chairman of the communique drafting committee.
Other issues discussed by the Afenifere were President Muhammadu Buhari’s certificate saga, the Nigeria’s debt profile, the state of insecurity and killings in the country, the killing of Shiite members and restructuring.
While reviewing the controversy over the academic qualifications of President Buhari for the office of the President of Nigeria, Afenifere said that the controversy touches at the core of the moral fibre of the country.
In view of the confusion, Afenifere said the onus on Buhari was to produce the document so as to retain his claim of being a man of integrity and being eligible to contest the 2019 elections .
Afenifere also expressed concerns over the spate of general insecurity in the country in spite of security being one of the three cardinal claims of focus by the Buhari administration.
“The country has been troubled by herdsmen terrors in different communities and kidnappings across the country as well as in the abduction and killing of Agom Adara, a pregnant woman in Ondo State, the Zamfara twins Gen. Alkali and with Leah Sharibu still in the custody of Boko Haram, among many others .
“We have also witnessed how Kaduna State whose Governor, Mallam Nasiru el Rufai once boasted of paying off criminals, has become virtually ungovernable with the recent Kasuwan Magani massacre that led to the deaths of no fewer than 100 persons and the attendant spill over crisis.
“We are worried that there has been no coordinated response on the part of the federal government to these needless losses of precious lives just as it continues to ignore calls for the overhaul of the country ‘s security architecture with a restructured polity to guarantee greater security of lives and property”, Afenifere stated.
The group condemned the extreme and barbaric use of force against members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) in Abuja.
“There can be no justification for the level of blood-letting that has been carried out against the sect whose only crime has been protesting the continued detention of their leader in spite of different court orders to release him from detention.
“The act of disobedience of court orders is totally reprehensible and confirms the statement by the US Ambassador to Nigeria that perversion of institutions, which abuse of court orders typifies, is the worst form of corruption.
“We, therefore, called on the federal government to release the leader of the Shiites as ordered by different courts and ensure that the security personnel responsible for the mass killings of his supporters are brought to book.
“We must not forget how extrajudicial killing of the founder of Boko Haram turned the group into a massive terror machine which we have been unable to contain and we are opening yet another front”, the group added.
