Fight in court! Lawyers representing Onnoghen’s Trial did this

Drama As Top Lawyers Representing FG In Onnoghen’s Trial ‘Fight’ In Court

‘Disagreement broke out and lead to fight’ within group of lawyers! Amazing!
A disagreement broke out in the camp of the prosecution in the trial of the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria,
Justice Walter Onnoghen, as the proceedings resumed on Monday.
The disagreement which lead to fight started after the prosecution led by Mr. Aliyu Umar (SAN), and the defence led by Mr. Okon Efut (SAN), announced appearances for their teams. [Fight in court! Lawyers representing Onnoghen’s Trial did this]
As Umar informed the tribunal that he was ready for the business of the day which was the adoption of final addresses,
a member of his team, Prof. Zainab Duke, attempted to speak to the bench. [Fight in court! Lawyers representing Onnoghen’s Trial did this]
With a paper in her hand, Duke tried to speak into the microphone but Umar grabbed the microphone and shouted on her to sit down.
“There cannot be two leading counsel. Sit down. You cannot speak,” Umar shouted.
Struggling to stand up after she sank to her seat in the middle of a struggle for the microphone with Umar,
Duke told the bench, “my lord I need your protection”.
Responding, the Chairman of the three-man bench, Danladi Umar, urged calm, and restated the lead prosecuting counsel’s point, saying,  [Fight in court! Lawyers representing Onnoghen’s Trial did this]
“only one counsel can speak for the team”.
“Whatever you have to say, inform the lead counsel,”the tribunal chairman said.
Defiant, Duke attempted to speak again, but she was cut short by the lead prosecuting counsel,
who requested the tribunal to order that she be sent out of the courtroom.
When he realised, his request was not immediately granted, he requested that Duke’s name is struck out from the list of the prosecution’s team. [Fight in court! Lawyers representing Onnoghen’s Trial did this]
His request was granted by the tribunal and Duke walked out immediately it was ruled that her name had been removed from the prosecution’s list.
Speaking outside, the courtroom, she said she only wanted to draw the tribunal’s attention to the similarity between the Onnoghen’s trial and a case that took place in England many years ago.

“I am glad that I have voted and I’m confident that I will emerge victorious at the end of the whole exercise,  because we communicated and engaged everyone during our campaigns.
“I have done a lot of work than my opponents in terms of reaching out to the people of the state and spreading my manifestoes; so that gives me an edge.
“Also, exactly six months ago, Sept. 9, 2018, I collected my nomination form from the party and such coincidence means that I will be the next governor of Lagos State.
“Earlier, there were reported slight issues with the card readers. But I am happy that they have been resolved and generally, the elections have been peaceful and I’m confident of winning,” he said.

Police harassed 'The Guardian' reporter in Lagos, Nigeria

Police harassed 'The Guardian' reporter in Lagos, Nigeria
About 15 thugs attacked The Guardian reporter on Saturday while discharging his duty at a collation centre situated at the Community Primary School in Idimu area of Lagos.
When the reporter visited the centre to check the movement of election materials at about 8:15 am, some of the INEC ad-hoc staff were seen barricading the school entrance.
While the reporter took pictures and video of protesting corp members, who were owed allowances, he was attacked by thugs that claimed to be agents of political parties. They demanded that The Guardian reporter deletes the videos and pictures.
The thugs carrying planks and metal vowed to break our reporter’s phone if he declined to delete the pictures. After much argument, the thugs seized his phone.
When the reporter approached one of the police officers attached to the centre to salvage the situation, he ordered that the reporter be taken to Area M Idimu Police station to report the incident.
After identifying himself at the Idimu Police Station, The Guardian reporter was harassed by officers at the counter, who challenged his action to take pictures and videos.
He was detained temporarily before the intervention of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
Our reporter explained to the DPO that he was discharging his duties, the police officer said journalists are not expected to take pictures at the collation centres.
He later ordered the release of the journalist and insisted that all pictures captured on his phone during the voting exercise be deleted by constables at the counter.
The DPO threatened that if the journalist was reported for taking picture and videos at polling units, he would be locked up in the cell.
