Gunshots, pandemonium in A’ Ibom Assembly, police cordon off complex

There were gunshots and pandemonium in the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Uyo on Tuesday, as five of the lawmakers whose seats were earlier declared vacant rose from their sitting.

Eyewitnesses told newsmen that the five lawmakers had earlier assumed their seats and started an impeachment process against the state Govermor, Udom Emmanuel.

The atmosphere however became rowdy when the governor arrived at the assembly complex at Udo Udoma Avenue.

The  immediately Gov. Emmanuel entered the premises, gunshots were fired by those described by eyewitnesses as security operatives and thugs who were around the premises.

According to the witnesses the newly acclaimed speaker, Mr Nse Ntuen, who had earlier sat with the four other lawmakers, were also harassed by security personnel in the assembly premises.

Ntuen’s vehicle was said to have been damaged while he escaped a mob action by some persons believed to be Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members.

The eyewitnesses said: “As the governor entered the assembly hall, youth started shouting ‘eight years, eight years.”

Some journalists who were in the assembly for the day’s duty, had to scamper for their lives, scaling the fence.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state,  DSP Odiko Macdon, who was in the assembly, premises, however, said he was gathering information and had yet to speak.

Trouble started in the house on Nov. 19, when the Speaker, Mr Onofiok Luke, declared vacant, the seats of the five lawmakers who defected from the PDP to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The assembly complex was also cordoned off by the police to protect lives and property. (NAN)

Oh No! Truck And Its Loaded Container Go Up In Flames At Popular Bus-Stop In Lagos Nigeria (Video)

A video has emerged showing a truck burning with fire in Lagos as observers try hard to see how to put out the flames.

The incident happened at the popular Idiroko bus stop in Ikorodu. The truck was was carrying it’s loaded container with it when it caught fire.

The real cause of the fire outbreak is not readily known at the moment, but the incident has caused a stir in the area it happened.

Firefighters are yet to arrive at the scene of the horrific incident.

Gerard Pique, Barcelona Defender, Gets N19.7 Million Fine For Driving Without A Valid License

The Barcelona centre-back Gerard Piqué Bernabéu is married to singer Shakira. He got a fine of £42,500 (N19.7 million) for driving without a valid driver license. That amount can change someone’s life here in Nigeria.

The four-time Champions League had previously been disqualified from driving for previous offences.

The Spanish footballer appeared in court on Monday where he admitted the incidence which took place on 31st August.

A deal was finally reached and he was fined a N19.7 million.

A Spanish driving license is issued with 12 points and a driver can lose their points if they are found guilty of traffic violations. Pique had already lost all of his for previous offences and was seemingly driving on a license with no points on it when he was caught.

According to Daily Mail, Pique was stopped by police on Barcelona’s famous Paseo de Gracia street. It is said that he had been informed of his driving ban in December of last year.

PSG optimistic over fitness of Mbappe, Neymar for Liverpool showdown

It has been a month marred by off-field controversies for Paris Saint-Germain, but it is the fitness of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar that casts the longest shadow over the French club ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League crunch clash against Liverpool.

PSG go into the game at the Parc des Princes in third place in Group C, and a defeat against last season’s runners-up, coupled with a win for Napoli at home to Red Star Belgrade, would condemn the Qatar-owned side to an early elimination.

Such a prospect is unthinkable for a club with the ambitions of PSG, who are desperate to improve on consecutive exits from the Champions League in the last 16.

Thomas Tuchel has won every domestic game since his appointment as coach in the summer, but PSG’s results in Europe have been underwhelming, with a 3-2 defeat at Liverpool in September being followed by two draws against Napoli.

Indeed, a 6-1 win over Red Star last month is the French side’s only victory in their last seven Champions League matches — not exactly the form of potential winners.

“We have to play very well to beat Liverpool. An average performance won’t be enough against a team like that. We are talking top level and we need to be perfectly prepared. It’s a decisive match,” club captain Thiago Silva told PSG’s official website.

But would they really be so well-prepared if the two most expensive players in the world were both absent against Jurgen Klopp’s team?

Mbappe and Neymar both suffered injuries playing in international friendly matches last week, and watched Saturday’s 1-0 home win over Toulouse from the stands.

Both of those players have scored 13 goals this season, while Edinson Cavani has 10 in all competitions. Their influence on the team is huge.

“They’re getting better every day, we have time before now and Wednesday. It’s good for us. I think they’ll be able to play,” was Tuchel’s optimistic assessment at the weekend.

Alves makes welcome return
The stakes are almost too high for PSG not to field their superstar duo, even if there is a risk.

PSG are a point behind both Liverpool and Napoli, so really need a win to reduce the pressure before going to Belgrade on the final matchday next month.

Being eliminated from the Champions League before Christmas would be catastrophic for a club who have faced fresh allegations of breaches of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations this month following Football Leaks revelations.

They have also come under fire after investigative website Mediapart reported that club talent scouts subjected potential youth signings to racial profiling, breaking French anti-discrimination laws.

PSG conducted an internal investigation and found “no proven case of discrimination”, but the claims have done little to help the mood around the club.

At least veteran Brazilian Dani Alves made his comeback at the weekend after six months out with a knee injury, and his influence could be precious as Paris seek to extend their impressive home record in Europe.

Only Barcelona and Real Madrid have beaten PSG at the Parc des Princes in the Champions League since the Qatari takeover seven years ago, so the challenge facing Liverpool is huge — all the more so given that Klopp’s men have lost their last four games away from Anfield in the competition.

Amid their best ever start to a Premier League season, which continued with a 3-0 win at Watford on Saturday, the Reds also know the stakes are high in Europe.

“It’s going to be a difficult game in Paris and a good game to show how good we are. We go there to try to win, for sure,” Xherdan Shaqiri told the club’s website.

Juventus Can’t Fall Asleep Against Valencia, Allegri Warns

Juventus cannot afford to switch off against resurgent Spanish side Valencia in Tuesday’s Champions League game in Turin as they did against Manchester United, coach Massimiliano Allegri cautioned on Monday.

The Italian champions meet Valencia in a crunch Group H clash in Turin on Tuesday where a draw would be enough to seal the hosts’ passage to the last 16.

The Spaniards lost 2-0 in Valencia in their home leg despite Juventus being reduced to ten men after half an hour when Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off.

But Allegri insists Valencia are a different side now and represent a threat to his team’s ambitions of winning everything this season including a first Champions League title since 1995.

“In the Champions League you have to go step by step. We need to break through tomorrow and try to get the top place in the group,” said Allegri.

“We’re playing against a team that has lost just once in their last ten matches.

“We have to be very alert and not to fall asleep like happened in the last ten minutes against Manchester United,” he continued after two goals in the last five minutes gave United a 2-1 win in Turin.

“These things happen but we don’t want to repeat that mistake.

“I’m not worried but I want the team to have respect for Valencia, the only thing certain is that we have to win this game.”

Juventus are top of Group H with nine points after four games, with Manchester United two points behind and the Spaniards on five.

Swiss club Young Boys are already out of the running.

Valancia counterpart Marcelino García described the game as being “all or nothing” for his team against “a side that may even win the competition”.

“Our future in the Champions League depends on this win. It’s going to be a difficult, challenging and complicated game,” said the Spaniard.

Great ambition

Allegri dismissed talk of being favourites despite Juve’s strong domestic form.

“Last year I said Real Madrid were the favourites. This year Barcelona are, and then behind there are three teams including us.

“The general perception is different because Cristiano Ronaldo has arrived and he has won a lot.

“We hope to bring all the trophies home.”

Allegri confirmed that Federico Bernardeschi, Sami Khedira and Emre Can would all be missing.

Captain Giorgio Chiellini will partner Leonardo Bonucci in defence with Rodrigo Bentancur in midfield along Miralem Pjanic and Blaise Matuidi and Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic will be in attack.

“I’d like Ronaldo to keep playing as he has been, both as an assist man and goal scorer,” said Allegri.

“He has the qualities to allow us to exploit him in in any situation.”

Garcia, meanwhile, does not believe that Ronaldo’s red card will motivate the Portuguese star further.

“I don’t think what happened in Valencia really matters much,” he said.

“Cristiano is an extraordinary player. He has great ambition to be the best and to win all the time.

“I don’t think we’ll find a different Ronaldo than what we are used to in Spain where we know all his distinctive characteristics.”

EPL: Mourinho hits back at Iker Casillas amid ongoing row

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has branded former Real Madrid goalkeeper, Iker Casillas’ latest comments as “an interview with someone who is at the end of his career” after the Spaniard criticised the Portuguese for his conduct at Madrid.

The duo had clashed during Mourinho’s time at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Casillas accusing his former manager of bringing “moments of great tension”.

However, he admitted his regret for not taking ‘the bull by the horns’ and confronting the Manchester United boss.

“He was brought in to compete with Barcelona and brought moments of great tension and that Madridismo that I mentioned that I don’t like came out, there was a limit that he went to with me that I didn’t want to go to,” Casillas told Universo Valdano channel, Vamos.

“The third year wasn’t all good, although we won La Liga and it seems that there were many people whose relationship was shaken.

“It wasn’t good for him, nor for me nor for the club. I think if it happened all over again, I would have taken the bull by the horns and faced Mourinho.

“At that time, I opted to be quiet and I thought that was the way to honour the values of Real Madrid.

“Nobody has wanted to talk about Mourinho to this day and I think it is maybe better to let it be and let it go.”

Mourinho was clearly unimpressed with Casillas’ recent explosive comments and claimed that the World Cup winner wasn’t telling the truth.

He told Record, “This interview gives the idea of being an interview with someone who is at the end of his career.

EPL: Emery takes a swipe at Wenger for neglecting key area in Arsenal

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery has taken a swipe at the club’s former boss, Arsene Wenger, for neglecting defensive structure while Arsenal were in decline towards the end of his tenure.

Wenger stepped down as manager after 22-year with the Gunners, and many believe the 69-year-old tarnished his reign by staying on for as long as he did in north London.

The last of Wenger’s three Premier League titles came in 2003/04 and only FA Cup trophies and Community Shields followed until his departure in the summer.

However, Emery has had an impressive start to the season despite opening defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea, leading Arsenal on an 11-match winning streak between August and October.

When asked to define the man he replaced, Emery told Marca, “Before Wenger came, Arsenal celebrated 1-0 and were based on defensive solidity.

“With Arsene, joy came from attacking, with players of good standing. And the perfect combination was the Invincibles.

“But over time, only technical quality and offensive freedom were taken care of, losing the defensive structure.

Australia, England, South Korea Share Lead At Golf World Cup

Cameron Smith birdied the 18th to give Australia a share of the lead with England and South Korea on the opening day of the golf World Cup on Thursday.

They conquered the Metropolitan Golf Club in Melbourne with 10-under par 62s in opening fourball action, with Malaysia, Belgium and defending champions Denmark a stroke further back.

The American pairing of Kyle Stanley and Matt Kuchar are four off the pace in a group of seven nations, including France and Japan.

Smith and partner Mark Leishman were among the favorites coming into the US$7 million tournaments and they lived up to expectations in blustery conditions, although forecast storms held off.

“I think we just combined really well,” Smith said at the 28-team tournament.

“Leish was saying once one of us was in trouble, the other just had to hit the center of the green and give ourselves a birdie opportunity from 20 or 30 feet. We both played really well all day and just kept being smart.”

Nothing would make English Ryder Cup teammates Ian Poulter and Tyrrell Hatton happier than spoiling the Australian party.

It looked like the rival sporting nations would be playing together in the second-round foursomes, but a late charge by the impressive South Korean team of An Byeong-hun and Kim Si-woo vaulted them into a share of the lead.

Australia will instead tee-off on Friday with Malaysian duo Gavin Green and Ben Leong, who combined for two eagles and five birdies.

“It was good team golf really. I think it was just solid all around,” said Green.

“The holes I birdied, he didn’t birdie, so we always had alternate holes, which we did well on and it is a good thing especially in this format.”

England sunk 10 birdies, and Poulter, a team event veteran, said it was crucial to do so in the fourball format to get into a good position.

In fourballs, or better ball, both players have a ball but only the better score counts for each hole. In foursomes or alternate shot, teammates take it in turns to play the same ball.

“Foursomes (the second and fourth rounds) is a completely different game,” Poulter said.

“You need to put the ball in play and if we get blustery weather, it’s going to be tricky.

“Foursomes is the day when you can take yourself out of the tournament pretty quickly. The tournament will be won or lost on Friday and Sunday in the foursomes rounds.”

Hatton said Poulter saved the team on the back nine, with his putting helping them drop six birdies to come home in 30, two better than the Australians could muster on the homeward stretch.

“It was a frustrating back nine for me. I was pretty disappointed. I was fortunate to have Ian by my side,” Hatton said. “He played great today and we are in a great position with three days to go.”

Belgium’s Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry matched England’s back nine scores of 30.

Nigerian Miss World Riot Left 100 Dead In Nigeria {Agbani Darego}

This day in Nigeria will forever be etched in the minds of Nigerians.

In 2002, Nigeria was chosen as the country where the Miss World contest will hold. Location: Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Only three years before, Nigeria had returned to democracy and one of her own, Agbani Darego, had made done her proud by becoming the current Miss World. Indeed, Agbani’s wit and charm had put Africa in the spotlight.

As such, it was an honour to play host to the beauty pageantry that had produced Agbani.

90 contestants arrived the country to see for themselves, the glory of Nigeria and the event was scheduled for the 7th of December.

To celebrate this achievement, Isioma Daniel a columnist in ThisDay newspaper, a national newspaper based in the South-Western Lagos, suggested that prophet Mohammed would approve of the contest and suggested that he might marry one of them.

This article infuriated the youths in Kaduna, Northern Nigeria. Heading to the newspaper station in Kaduna to raze down the building; they set to fire churches and attacked bystanders thought to be Christians while chanting “Down with beauty” and “Miss World is sin” for three days.

In the end, the Red Cross said over 500 persons were injured and over 100 died.

Despite the turnout of events, Miss World organisers (Miss World Organisation and Silver Bird Productions Limited) returned to the media saying that the event will still hold. It soon changed its mind and announced that it had moved the grand finale to London, England.

The government vowed to prosecute the paper. Meanwhile, the paper carried front-page apologies and insisted that the article was a mistake.

Atiku - 40 percent of my government will be youth oriented

Presidential Candidate of he People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for the 2019 general election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has pledged that if voted into power, 40% of his administration will be dedicated to the youths, while 30 % for the womenfolk and the balance of 30 % for the adults.

The Presidential hopeful who spoke Tuesday Night in Yola at a FUNTION put together by the Atiku/ Obi Vanguard for Good Governance stated that he decided to allocate the largest percentage of power of his government to youths because they form 70% of the voting population in Nigeria.

: Successive governments in the country have continued to give prominence to the adults in the running of their governments and they have continued to fail”, the former Vice President regretted.

He accused the President Buhari led APC Government of deceitful promises stating that all the youth related programmes put by the government are not being implemented.

This, he said has been responsible for the growing youth restiveness in most of the states of the country.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar therefore called on youths to vote out what he called irresponsible APC government for not meeting the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians.

Earlier, the state Chairman of PDP, Barrister Shehu Tahir reiterated that the party is working tirelessly to ensure that Atiku Abubakar wins next year’s general election.

EPL: What FIFA did after Pogba moved to Manchester United in world-record deal

FIFA reviewed its transfer rules after Paul Pogba’s £89million move to Manchester United from Juventus, according to Football Leaks.

The transaction was described as “reproachable” in internal FIFA correspondence by disciplinary chiefs.

The disciplinary committee also investigated whether there had been a breach of third-party ownership (TPO) rules by Juventus.

The Italian champions made a huge payment of £41.4m to Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, but FIFA were not able to establish a rule violation.

Raiola earned £41.4m while representing all three parties involved in the deal — Juventus, United and Pogba. Juventus alone paid him £24m while United gave him a fee of £16m.

According to German magazine Der Spiegel, leaked documents showed that the committee decided against pursuing a case, because of unclear legal footing.

There was however a recommendation that the existing rules be reviewed so that penalties could be applied in any future case.

UAE Court Sentences Student To Life For Spying

A United Arab Emirates court sentenced British student Matthew Hedges to life in jail on Wednesday after convicting him of spying, a family spokesperson said. 

“We can confirm that he was sentenced to life in prison,” the spokesperson told AFP.

“The hearing lasted less than five minutes, and his lawyer was not present.”

Hedges, a 31-year-old Ph.D. student, was researching the UAE’s foreign and internal security policies after the Arab Spring revolutions of 2011 when he was detained at Dubai airport on May 5.

Nadia Buari celebrates her 35th birthday with awesome photos

Nadia Buari, one of the most popular Ghanaian actresses is today celebrating her birthday today.

 

The mother of 4 kids, who was born in Takoradi, Ghana to a musician and a producer called Alhaji Sidiku Buari and mother who is a beautician called Hajia Buari, is now 36 years old. She was born on 21 November 1982.

Taking to her Instagram page, she shared these photos of herself with her fans.

She then wrote:

“My “birth” owes its “rights” to all these special people. My gratitude to all, who by all means, and in all ways, and through all things, have helped me become all I have become today. “Over the years, I have become stronger by what I believe and think, about who I am, and I have become more purposeful and powerful by what God says about who I am. Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi, will force Neymar to snub a return to the Catalan club and sign for Real Madrid instead.
Messi’s strained relationship with Neymar will hinder any stunning Nou Camp return for the Brazilian, according OK Diaro director, Eduardo Inda.
Inda said Neymar won’t be moving back to Catalonia any time soon.

“Some think that Neymar is going back to Barcelona,” he told OK Diaro.

“He cannot go back because of how things ended up with Messi and financial fair play.

“The relationship [with Messi] was regrettable. The relationship is exceptional.”

The highly rated Brazilian forward left Camp Nou in August 2017, joining Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record £200m fee.

Wizkid’s bodyguard attacked as singer is accused of owing nightclub

Roy Emmanuel, the bodyguard of Ayo ‘Wizkid’ Balogun, has been stabbed after being involved in an altercation with the MC of Club DNA, Lagos.

The incident was said to have taken place on Thursday, November 15, while pictures of the wounded bodyguard surfaced on the internet at the weekend.

According to the social media grapevine, the altercation was allegedly caused by Emmanuel’s defence of the superstar singer over an alleged debt owed to the nightclub.

However, the club released a statement late on Sunday, noting that the fight was an act of “indiscipline” and not because of the reported debt accrued by Wizkid.

The club stated that “Wizkid’s outstanding bill is a different issue to be addressed separately”.

The statement read: “It has been brought to our notice that news circulating stating Wizkid’s bouncer (Roy) was attacked at CLUB DNA and related to Wizkid’s outstanding bills at the club.

“We would like to make clarification that it was a situation of indiscipline on both side. Roy works at Club dna as the chief bouncer and the accused also work at the same club as an MC. Altercation happened when both staffs were talking to a senior staff and both started an argument and rapidly rose to a fight.

“The matter is now been handled by the Nigerian Police and they are getting to the matter. We would like to clarify that Wizkid’s outstanding bill has nothing to do with this fight.

“It was a situation of two staffs indiscipline act. Wizkid’s outstanding bill is a different issue to be addressed separately and vividly.”
