De Ligt wins 2018 European Golden boy award

Dutch defender, Matthijs De Ligt, has been named the 2018 Golden Boy Award winner, finishing ahead of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander Arnold and Trophee Kopa winner, Kylian Mbappe.
The Golden boy is an award given by sports journalists to a young footballer playing in Europe, perceived to have been the most impressive prospect during a calendar year. All nominees must be under the age of 21 and play in a European’s nation’s top tear.
The Ajax defender made his debut for Ajax senior team in a Cup game against Williem II in 2016 and was made captain of the club in March 2018. The 19-year-old becomes the first Dutch player to be named European Golden Boy since Rafael Van der Vaart received the inaugural award in 2005.
