Lekki Toll Gate
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Lagos Central, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri, has called for immediate cancellation of toll collection on Lekki-Epe expressway in the interest of motorists and commuters plying the road.
He also called for the reduction of taxes and levies imposed on residents by the state and councils.
In a statement in Lagos yesterday, the estate surveyor/valuer said that the cancellation of toll on the road was overdue and that further collection would amount to exploitation of the masses, particularly residents along the Lekki-Ajah axis who ply the road daily.
“By now, the Lagos State government and its contractor-partner should have collected in full money used to build the tollgate, renovate and expand the expressway, bearing in mind that the Jakande administration initially constructed the road in the Second Republic,” he stated.
Onitiri also noted that Lagosians were being unnecessarily taxed.
He stated: “The high and multiple taxes and levies on Lagosians are inhuman and do not reflect the economic situation of the present times.
“Honestly, the taxation has negative effect on industrialisation of the state, as many companies and industries now relocate to neighbouring states where they could operate on lower costs.
“Taxation should be reasonable to attract more companies and industries into Lagos in order to generate more employment for the youths and graduates now roaming the streets without jobs.”
