Arsenal vs Liverpool: Referee erred in disallowing Mane’s goal – Ex-ref, Walton, Martin Keown

A former Premier League referee, Peter Walton, has confirmed that referee, Andre Marriner, made a mistake by disallowing Sadio Mane’s goal in Arsenal 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Saturday.
Also, a former Arsenal and England defender, Martin Keown added that the referee made the wrong call in the game.
Arsenal and Liverpool settled for a draw in their Premier League clash on Saturday with James Milner and Alexandre Lacazette scoring for both sides in the second half.
Liverpool were wrongly denied a goal when Mane thought he had given the visitors the lead after tapping home into an empty net.
The ball had fallen to Mane after Roberto Firmino latched onto a bass from Trent Alexander-Arnold and chipped Bernd Leno.
Firmino’s effort hit the post, however, and while Mane tucked home the rebound, linesman Simon Long raised his flag to indicate offside.
Walton quickly confirmed the officials had make a mistake.
“[Mane] is clearly in an offside position when the ball comes over, but he’s is not involved in this phase of play,” Waltson told BT Sports.
“Mane is then in an onside position when Firmino plays the ball so it is a good goal.”
Also speaking about the disallowed goal, Keown added, “The linesman obviously thinks Mane is ahead of the ball but he isn’t. It’s a mistake.”
