Strike: ASUU, FG Meeting To Continue Next Week File photo
The conciliation meeting between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government will continue next week, despite the resumption of negotiations.
The striking university lecturers on Thursday resumed discussions with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, almost two weeks after several efforts to resolve the issues that led to the strike with the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu failed.
Labour Minister who is leading FG’s delegation is optimistic that the resumed discussions will lead to the suspension of the industrial action.
However, the striking lecturers believe that the outcome of the next meeting, to be attended by the Education Minister in attendance, will determine their decision.
The university lecturers have been on strike since November 4, 2018, over non-payment of earned allowance and other welfare issues.
According to them, the strike is meant to express grievance over certain unimplemented areas in the 2017 MoA, which they said suggested the Federal Government’s insincerity to the demands by the lecturers.
